Beyond Body Review — A Look Inside My Personalized Wellness Book

I wasn’t always a health-conscious person. Now that I’m in my 30s, I’ve started thinking about ways to improve my health.

But with so much health information online and so many wellness apps to choose from, it wasn’t easy to find something that works for me — and that seems to be the case for a lot of people. 

Dr. Rizza Mira, our in-house diet expert, confirms this, saying:

There is no single secret to weight loss. Calorie deficit or eating less calories and burning more through exercise remains to be the most effective way to lose weight.

I came across Beyond Body on Tiktok and Instagram where it’s been making rounds among influencers and wellness enthusiasts.

It’s the first fully-personalized wellness book. And it says it can help me improve my wellbeing and reach a “healthy weight goal.”

It got me excited, so I signed up and got a copy.

What Is Beyond Body?

Beyond Body is a personalized wellness program that allows you to have a healthy relationship with food. Like many wellness programs, it’s designed to improve and promote overall health.

Your wellness book also comes with the Beyond Body app. You can use it to:

  • Create your meal plan and workout plan
  • Explore Beyond Body’s meal plans and workouts
  • Get a shopping list based on your meal plan

Inside The Beyond Body Book

My book has 290 pages total. But you might get more or fewer pages with your copy. Beyond Body divides these pages into eight chapters.

Here’s a closer look at each chapter:

1. Introduction

This is where Beyond Body introduces your 28-day program

In these 28 days, it says you’ll learn to change your mindset and start working on becoming the best version of yourself.

According to Beyond Body, my wellness plan is made to suit my needs, body type, habits, work schedule, health goals, and food preferences.

2. Chapter: YOU

Beyond Body helps evaluate your current health by looking into your height and weight.

It then provides a summary of measurements that are important to your weight loss journey, such as body mass index (BMI) and body fat percentage:

You can compare your results to the tables in your report to learn more about your current fitness level. Mine says that I am obese.

Later, you can look back at your report to see how far you’ve come. There’s a formula for calculating your body fat percentage but not your BMI.

This section also includes tips that address your health concerns. So it’ll be unique for everyone, depending on how you answered Beyond Body’s quiz:

I personally struggle with anemia, bloating, stress, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a hectic work schedule, and lack of sleep.

In this chapter, Beyond Body tells me what I can do about all of them. There are one or two pages of health tips for every health issue I have.

And did I mention there’s a whole page dedicated to your body shape?

Beyond Body says I have the same pear-shaped body as Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, and Mariah Carrey. It also provides clothing tips on how to flatter my shape.

I’ve read some negative reviews about how it’s against body positivity to be compared to celebrities or be told what to wear, but I think it depends on how you look at it.

I don’t mind getting some advice on clothes. I also think it’s good motivation to know what your body might look like after you’ve lost weight.

3. Getting Started

This section shows you what to expect from the Beyond Body Program, such as how much weight you’ll lose each week and how it can improve your health.

Based on my report, I can lose anywhere from 0.5 kg to 1.4 kg per week and enjoy health benefits like improved energy and lower stress levels:

Within these pages are some habit-forming tips to support your weight loss. You’ll learn to deal with social pressure and track your weight loss progress.

These tips will teach you accountability and help you become mindful of your eating habits. Its psychological approach reminds me of Noom’s Weight Loss Program.

4. Your Training Guide

This chapter prepares you for a healthier lifestyle by teaching you the basics of exercising, such as:

  • The importance of warm-ups and cool-downs
  • Why you need to maintain proper form
  • Proper breathing techniques while exercising
  • How to avoid pushing yourself too hard
  • Foods and drinks to consume before and after workouts

Beyond Body also dedicates a page to your favorite exercise and talks about 3 workout excuses you should avoid if you want to stay on track.

Regular exercise is part of the program so these tips are extremely useful for beginners.

They can increase your tolerance to longer and more strenuous routines, lower your risk for injuries, and help you recover faster from workouts.

5. Healthy Eating Essentials

This chapter helps you develop healthy habits when it comes to food. It has at least eight pages of valuable tips and insights on:

  • Healthy cooking
  • Meal preparation
  • Grocery shopping
  • Eating out
  • Skipping meals
  • Superfoods

My favorite part is that it teaches you to pick healthier foods based on their color. Certain-colored foods are associated with specific nutrients. 

For example, red foods such as tomatoes and raspberries are loaded with lycopene, a phytonutrient that can prevent cancer and heart disease, among others.1

Orange and yellow foods like carrots and pumpkins are rich in carotenoids. They can help lower your risk for eye disease, cardiovascular disease, and certain cancers.2

6. Your 28-Day Meal Plan

The Beyond Body Meal Plan includes recipes for five daily meals for 28 days.

Each recipe also provides simple cooking instructions, preparation time, and suggestions as to when you should eat your meal.

You can customize your meal plans by swapping out ingredients you don’t like. Beyond Body offers alternative ingredients for all of its recipes.

There’s a quick guide included on how to use the meal planning chart. You’ll also get a breakdown of your daily calories.

Beyond Body set my daily calorie intake to 1,500 to 1,650 kcal per day and divides it across three meals and two snacks:

  • Breakfast: 375 to 415 kcal
  • Morning snack: 150 to 165 kcal
  • Lunch: 450 to 495 kcal
  • Afternoon snack: 150 to 165 kcal
  • Dinner: 375 to 415 kcal

Your daily calorie limit might be different, depending on your weight loss goals. But the goal is to limit the amount of calories you eat so you can reach a calorie deficit.

If you decide to have “cheat days” where you can eat anything, there are quick tips to help you get back on track.

7. Beyond 28 Days: Your Final Lessons

Beyond Body summarizes the long-term lifestyle changes you need to make to lose and maintain your weight. These include:

  • Exercising regularly
  • Keeping yourself hydrated
  • Establishing a sleep routine
  • Preparing homemade meals
  • Portioning your meals
  • Eating healthy snacks
  • Avoiding food cravings
  • Picking healthier foods
  • Limiting alcohol consumption

8. Cooking Cheat Sheet

It’s a quick guide on how to cook meats and prepare different dressings. Beyond Body also provides a table of serving sizes of food ingredients.

Using The Beyond Body App

The app works together with your customized wellness book, making it easier to lose weight and monitor your progress. Here’s what you can do with it:

Plan Your Meals

Beyond Body gives you two options: you can follow pre-planned meals or create your own healthy meals using pre-selected ingredients.

Pre-planned meals don’t offer much room for personalization. You can replace or skip meals but you won’t be able to replace the ingredients.

However, they provide basic nutritional value on food. You’ll know the amount of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats it contains.

The nutrition management plan provides customizable recipes. You can replace entire meals or ingredients with other healthy alternatives:

For example, my breakfast recipe for Pesto Quesadilla says I can replace the corn tortilla with either gluten-free tortilla or whole grain tortilla.

Beyond Body’s shows the amount of calories for each food, but not macronutrients. My Pesto Quesadilla has 390 calories:

You can plan your meals days, weeks, or months ahead. Remember to mark a meal as ‘DONE’ as soon as you finish eating.

Get A Shopping List Of Ingredients

After deciding on your meal plan, choose the day(s) of the week when you intend to do groceries. Beyond Body will instantly populate your Shop List with ingredients.

The ingredients are divided into food groups, so it’s easier to shop:

  • Bread and bakery
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Vegetables and fruits
  • Dairy products and eggs
  • Oils and sauces
  • Legumes and grains
  • Meats and fish 

Establish A Workout Routine

You can choose from two workout plans. The pre-designed workout plans offer 700+ workouts to choose from.

If you opt for personalized workouts, you need to answer a short quiz. The app will recommend an exercise plan based on your fitness goal and experience level.

Beyond Body will plan your workout sessions throughout the week. Each routine will include step-by-step instructions and a short video tutorial:

Track Progress

Each time you log meals or exercises, the app updates your daily caloric limit and gives you a summary of the following:

  • Amount of consumed calories
  • Amount of burned calories
  • Amount of carbohydrate intake
  • Amount of protein intake
  • Amount of fat intake

Beyond Body shows you how many calories you have left for the day. You can also use the app to track your weight, steps, water intake, and time spent on sleep and workouts.

My Honest Beyond Body Review — Pros & Cons

Now that I’ve shown you what’s inside Beyond Body’s wellness book and app, here are my thoughts on them:

Things I Like About Beyond Body

1. It walks you through your wellness plan

Some people might complain about the hundreds of “useless” pages in the book. I personally enjoyed reading through the tips before starting my program.

Most weight loss programs feel rushed. Beyond Body eases you into the process with habit-building programs.

Sure. You can find a lot of this information online. But for busy people like me, having everything important in one book is heaven-sent.

2. You get a comprehensive weight loss program

Most of the bad reviews I read online only talk about the Beyond Body book. I think it’s unfair to review the wellness program when it includes a book and an app.

Beyond Body created the program to have both for a good reason. These tools work together to ensure that you stick to the program and enjoy long-lasting weight loss.

The book serves as a guideline so you can build habits that lead to a healthy lifestyle. Beyond Body’s app acts as a daily companion to your journey.

3. Gives you value for your money

I’ve read reviews saying how “expensive” Beyond Body is — and, considering what you’re getting with your subscription, it’s really not. In fact, it’s pretty reasonably priced.

For instance, Noom costs about $28.20 per month for a 6-month subscription. And a similar subscription with Beyond Body costs $25.26 per month.

However, you must pay an extra $39 to $59 to access Noom’s customized meals and exercise plans. Beyond Body offers them with your subscription at no additional cost.

Things I Don’t Like About Beyond Body

1. Nearly everything is hidden behind a paywall

Beyond Body’s website has very little information on its features. I’m a highly visual person. And there aren’t enough actual photos of the book or the app.

I had to take the online health quiz to get glimpses of its features and wait until the end. By then, Beyond Body will give you a list of what it offers.

It wasn’t until I paid for my subscription, logged into my app, and got the e-book that I finally understood how Beyond Body works.

2. Missing nutritional information

The meal plans on your e-book won’t include a breakdown of macronutrients, unlike the app. It may pose a problem for people who track their carb, protein, or fat intake.

3. Limited food tracking and calorie counting features

The best food trackers and calorie counters let you manually add items to your food log. This helps them accurately monitor your intake.

Beyond Body has no room for deviations. You can only log food from their meal plans.

Taking Beyond Body’s Wellness Quiz

Before you can sign up, you have to take a short quiz. You can download the app on your phone and answer questions there. I took the quiz on their website.

It will ask about your body type and “problem areas” where you usually pack weight.

Over 20 questions on your current health, diet, lifestyle, and medical history will be thrown your way. These include any personal preferences, such as:

  • Which meats you love, hate, or feel okay with
  • Whether you eat fish and vegetables
  • Your favorite vegetables
  • The kind of carbs you like
  • Foods you don’t like
  • How often you want to exercise each week
  • Physical activities you enjoy

Lastly, it will ask about your age, height, current weight, and target weight. 

Remember to answer as honestly as possible. Beyond Body uses this information to create your personal wellness program.

For this review, I intentionally lied and told them I was several pounds heavier than my current weight. I did this to see what kind of plan they would offer me.

When you’re done, it will ask for your name and let you pick a color for your book. Beyond Body will then present a summary of your health, including:

  • The estimated date you will reach your target weight
  • Your metabolic age (which depends on your diet and lifestyle)
  • Your body mass index and if you’re overweight
  • Body areas where you can expect to lose weight

The next step is to subscribe. Your subscription will include access to the Beyond Body Assistant app. You can get a hardcover of your wellness book, just the e-book, or both.
